Treatments

At Elite Total Rehab, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic wellness care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer. Call or contact us today about your treatment.

1) Diversified Chiropractic Manipulation: Diversified chiropractic manipulation is described as a high velocity, low amplitude force to a joint in a specific line of drive to increase its range of motion and remove “subluxation”, usually in the spine, performed by the clinician’s hands.  A subluxation is a segment of the spine that has lost its normal range of motion.  The adjustment helps to restore that motion thus removing hypomobility (loss of motion) in the spine.  Removing this “subluxation” not only helps to restore proper motion but can reduce nerve irritation and muscle tightness.  Sometimes during an adjustment an audible release (a pop or a crack) may be heard.  This is a normal occurrence and should not alarm you.  The goal is not to “crack” the neck, but to rather replace the lost motion to each segment.  When performed correctly there is usually little to no pain with this procedure.  The adjustment is one of the most powerful tools that a manual clinician can perform on their patients.  Call or contact us today about your treatment.

2) Cox Flexion/Distraction : Cox flexion/distraction is a manual therapy performed on a designed table to help treat low back pain.  The table functions to allow the low back to be stretched in flexion and extension (bending forward and backward), bilateral lateral flexion (bending sideways) and even rotation of the lumbar spine.  The clinician places a sustained pressure with their hands over the lumbar spine and uses the table to manually stretch the lumbar spine in all planes of motion.  Flexion and distraction of the lumbar spine has been shown to help alleviate: muscle spasm, joint dysfunction, disc herniations, lumbar radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, and even help improve range of motion and pain associated with arthritic pain.   Call or contact us today about your treatment.

3) Physical Therapy Rehabilitation : Physical therapy is the act of performing therapeutic exercises targeted to help restore strength, flexibility, endurance and overall improved of a specific region in the body.  Therapy is prescribed to patients who suffer from neuro-musculoskeletal pain (pain from nerves, muscle, joints, bones, tendons, and ligaments) whether it’s from: surgery, recent trauma such as a work injury or a motor vehicle accident, poor body mechanics, or pain from advancement in age.  Exercises help to stimulate circulation, stabilize joints, improve posture and improve proprioception (balance) to help decrease falls in the elder population.    Call or contact us today about your treatment.

4) Therapeutic Massage with Myofascial Release
Massage is good to help relax the muscles and decrease stress.  Myofascial release is a deep tissue work that more effective stretches the underlying tissue that encapsulates the muscle itself.  During myofascial release the patient undergoes a passive range of motion (passive meaning the clinician moves the area, the patient relaxes) with applied pressure from the clinician over the area worked on.  This allows a deep stretch to be performed over the muscle to help elongate tight, taut muscles, that otherwise would not be addressed with message.  Following myofascial release bruising may be visible; bruises are superficial and should have little to no pain, from direct pressure over these tight muscles but should resolve with cryotherapy (ice).  Depending on the symptoms 3-5 passes of myofascial release may be performed over the same area.  Call or contact us today about your treatment.

5) Therapeutic Ultrasound : Ultrasound is a modality that uses a machine to conduct deep heat into a tissue to help increase circulation, increase tissue relaxation, scar tissue breakdown and promote healing.  The machine may be adjusted using different wave frequencies to affect either deep structures, such as the multifidus (a deep muscle in the low back) or the extensor carpi radialis (a superficial muscle in the forearm). Call or contact us today about your treatment.

6) Graston Technique: The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The Technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.  It is used for multiple conditions including but not limited to: Cervical sprain/strain (neck pain), Lumbar sprain/strain (back pain), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (wrist pain), Plantar Fasciitis (foot pain), Lateral Epicondylitis (tennis elbow), Medial Epicondylitis (golfer's elbow), Rotator Cuff Tendinitis (shoulder pain), Patellofemoral Disorders (knee pain), Achilles Tendinitis (ankle pain), Fibromyalgia, Scar Tissue, Trigger Finger, and Shin Splints.  Research conducted by Graston Technique trained clinicians at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, found that the controlled micro trauma induced through the Graston Technique protocol, increased the amount of fibroblasts to the treated area. That amount of inflammation to the scar tissue helps initiate the healing cascade. The structure of the tissue is rearranged, and damaged tissue is replaced by new tissue. Ice is then applied to reduce the pain and exercise is implemented to increase function and range of motion.  This controlled micro trauma effectively helps restore function to the involved area with stronger and better tissue function.   Call or contact us today about your treatment.

7) Electrical/Interferential Muscle Stimulation
This type of therapy is performed with a muscle stimulation machine.  This machine is hook up to 4 lead wires that have electrodes attached to them.  The electrodes are placed over the area of treatment and an electrical stimulus is released from the machine into the electrodes to excite the muscle.  The frequency of the stimulation can be altered to treat either acute (recent) pain or chronic (older) pain.  The stimulation of the area releases hormones to help promote a natural pain blocker for the pain experienced.  Tissue healing and increased blood circulation is also a positive effect from muscle stimulation.   Call or contact us today about your treatment.

8) Intersegmental Traction
This therapy is administered using a specifically designed table to gently facilitate joint motion to vertebral segments throughout the spine.  The patient lies in the supine (face up) position on the table and the clinician increases the pressure or intensity within the patient’s tolerance.  A roller gently glides from the base of the spine over the sacrum to the base of the skull at the top of the neck.  This treatment is effective in relaxing the muscles of the spine and increase joint motion to individual segments of the spine.  Call or contact us today about your treatment.

9) Acupuncture: Acupuncture has become very popular in the United States as a treatment for many illnesses and symptoms, including low back pain. This treatment method was originally developed in China, over 2000 years ago, and has become a common method for relieving pain and other symptoms in this country. Acupuncture treatments consist of placing very thin stainless steel needles into the skin of the patient in certain locations that are thought to correspond to certain organs and anatomic areas deep within the body. There are several thousand "acupoints" that have been described by traditional Chinese acupuncturists, each of which has a particular significance in the treatment of different diseases and symptoms. According to the traditional Chinese understanding of the human body, a natural form of energy that is vital for the proper functioning of the human body flows through twelve "meridians" in the human body. This energy force is called "chee," and is understood to have both good and bad qualities. The balance between these two aspects of the life force, the yin (a dark, female force), and the yang (a light, male force), controls every aspect of the human body. Acupuncture seeks to correct imbalances in relative amounts of yin and yang within the human body by inserting needles into acupoints that are aligned with certain meridians.  When performed correctly the patients usually feels little to no pain.  Research has been performed showing acupuncture is a safe and effective way to treating musculoskeletal pain.  Call or contact us today about your treatment. 10) Nutritional and Supplemental Counseling: Supplements have become a big business within the United States and the world.  There has been much research to show the effectiveness of supplements when compared to traditional medicine.  Supplements, natural found compounds, have a lower incidence of side effects and thus are believed to be safer than synthetic medications.  Patients who are taking medications prescribed by their physicians should always consult with them prior to taking any supplements.  Supplements and herbal medications may be taken in a pill and liquid form.
